FAQs

How is the Texas All Star Baseball Academy (TASBA) different from other baseball programs?

The TASBA training program is the leading training academy in Central Texas in developing arm strength / arm care / arm action / arm recovery. Our personal mentor is Ron Wolforth, Owner of Ron Wolforth’s Baseball Ranch in Magnolia Texas. He and his Inner Group members are leading the pitching revolution against the old regime of Stay Tall / Pause and Pull & Tuck. (See Special Report for more information). If you have not seen their work, you are missing out on some great / cutting edge / push the envelope training information.

We offer the committed student-athlete the opportunity to train and see personal gains beyond their self imposed limits. You have to see, experience our training program in order to really appreciate what these young men are capable of becoming.

We are the first and only training academy in Austin with such a connection to Ron’s work.

Since 1993 we have been incorporating this Velocity Improvement Program and every player (over 1000 since 1993) has gained at least 4 miles per hour in just 6 weeks in our program.

Not only does their arm speed increase, they are doing it with less stress and pain (see Brad Dydalewicz’s testimonial). Our players (see alumni list) are different, they learn to trust and to compete within themselves and there in lies the magic of our program.

It is not for everyone, but it is for the young man who is willing to sacrifice his time / effort and energy to become different.

What type of physical training does the academy offer?

We are always evolving as a training program; our program last year is different than our current program, as it will be in the next 3 months. To my knowledge, every baseball program that offers any type of velocity training in Austin, started with TASBA and then left to star their own, but here is the catch, they are not progressing in their knowledge of the system that is in place within Pitching Central’s Inner Circle of Baseball Trainers. (This group of trainers is committed to learning as much as they possible can, in order to pass the information along to their players / clients. Pushing the envelope daily happens also within our own training staff.

The types of training include the specific baseball skill development (hitting / pitching / catching etc) along with core training and creating explosiveness in the player. We have 4-5 different training programs that change daily. Depending upon the goal of the day depends upon which training program that we will implement for that specific day.

Can certain types of training help prevent injury?

The Human body is not unbreakable

Throwing a baseball is a weighted object (5 oz). Therefore there is an inherent risk at any time for injury to occur. We cannot guarantee that you will not break, but it is our belief, that if you train specific core areas for strength / recovery / explosiveness etc, you can greatly reduce the risk of injury. Areas of training include the bodies’ core, the shoulder capsule including (but not limited to) the accelerators’ / decelerators’ / teres minor / non-dominant side vs. the dominant side. By using this type of training  WE CAN GUARANTEE that each player will improve in their preparation in becoming faster / quicker / stronger.

Why is mental commitment important to achieving goals?

That is the one thing that we cannot change in a player, is their own ability to think beyond their self imposed limits. The change has to come from within. They make it theirs because they are seeing real personal gains in terms of measured skill areas. There is not a magic pill that says you are great or not. You have to be willing to be different. You have to learn to sacrifice your own personal time / effort and energy in order to see personal improvements.

To become great requires a lot of commitment. It is what separates Good from Great!

How many of TASBA's athletes have been awarded college scholarships?

Over 150 and counting. It has been a great honor to see each player develop to that level, but it also great to see the ones where their own personal talent took them. Sometimes it was recreation baseball, sometimes High School / College, but what we are most proud of is that each player has grown as a young man by learning to compete within himself.

We are more excited about the players who have or currently are attending elite academic institutions throughout the US.

That is really what this is all about. Very few players have the opportunity to play college baseball, even fewer professionally, but you can always improve in your behavior, your attitude and your desire to be different today that you were yesterday.

Why is parental support and commitment so important to the athlete"s success in the TASBA program?

Parental support is critical to a young person’s development. Baseball is an Art, Art can be taught, therefore the sport of baseball can become a TEACH. Players learn at an early age by 3 types of learning: Auditoria / Visual and Kinesthetic.

Parental support during this time of personal / athletic / spiritual development is directly reflected in their progression. It is much easier to train a 5-6-7 year old, who is just learning to throw and catch, hit etc than it is for a 14-15-16 yr old who has so many bad habits that he can’t begin to figure out where to begin in the training process.

Parents can also be unrealistic in their sons’ skill level, but if they understand their role in the process, then they see real gains. Let them learn by doing, trying, supporting.
